How To Make France Travel As Quick And Easy As Possible
When you visit France travel can be a pleasure indeed. There is so much to see and to do, and getting about the country is easy with one of the best railway networks in Europe. Be aware, though, that once you leave the beaten track and the major cities, travel becomes a completely different proposition. Whereas the railways are a great advertisement for a well and proudly run national network, the bus services are a total contrast. There is no integration or planning involved, with the task of running the routes left to individual private companies.
As you can imagine, this leads to a great diversity in the standard of service you can expect in many different areas. It also makes it very hard for a tourist to find out who is running the service before they visit, how often any buses run, and what they will have to pay to use the service. If you are planning to travel in rural areas, car hire is by far the best option as it will remove this headache completely. If you do plan to use the bus routes, it will be best to find out from local tourist information offices what the times are before you plan your time.
France travel can offer you a very large range of experiences, as just about everything is here. For sun and beach lovers, the south of the country faces the Mediterranean sea, and temperatures during the summer are just perfect. For lovers of skiing and the winter scene, the Alps in winter provide some of the best and most famous resorts on Earth, including three which have hosted the winter Olympics. Sports fans will find Grand Slam tennis, the greatest cycle race in the world in the Tour De France, and a high standard of soccer and rugby.
If it is city culture you are after, Paris will be right up there with the very best that the world can offer. The art galleries of the city house some of the most famous paintings in history, and there are regular performances of music, opera and theater. Paris also has its own dedicated railway system, much of which runs under the ground. Known as the Metro, it is the fastest and most convenient way of moving around the busy city. Tickets are easily bought from machines at the stations themselves.
If the majority of your France travel trip is going to be in the cities, or popular resort areas, you will probably find travel easy to arrange and very efficient. Both the Paris Metro and the SNCF national railway are excellent services. It is only when you need to rely on road transport that you may begin to struggle. Even this can largely be overcome if you plan your journey well and get the information you need before you set out. Provided you are well informed, getting off the beaten track can be another of the great pleasures of France travel.
