When You Are Visiting Italy Rail Travel Can Be Your Cheapest Option
Italy rail travel can allow you to have a pleasant, relaxed journey throughout a country steeped in history and culture, and it can also save you money. Whether you are looking to explore the countryside, head for the beaches and sunshine of the south, or experience the culture, fashion and fine living of the great northern cities, visiting Italy should prove to be an extremely rewarding experience. Italian rail travel is relatively cheap and easy, so there is no real need to use internal flights unless you are heading from one extreme of the country to the other.
There are different types of train and service in Italy, which allows the service provider to offer the most suitable option for each journey. The majority of people traveling from one major city to another do not want to lose valuable time by stopping at a large number of minor stations along the way, and for that reason Italy has the Eurostar train. This is nothing to do with the British and French train of the same name, and the Italian version had the name first. If you are planning to travel from one city to another, this will be your fastest option.
There are also trains which serve major cities called Inter City. These may be better for longer trips, and they can certainly save you money. If you are prepared to travel second class, you will achieve the highest degree of savings, but you will not be guaranteed to get a seat. At the peak times times of day, seats are difficult to get. The positive side of this is, of course, that it keeps prices down as more passengers use the same train. Smaller “Regionale” trains complete the Italy rail travel network, although these do not run frequently.
There are other options to consider if you are making a longer trip, or if you are planning to visit other countries as part of the same trip. The Eurail pass can give you unlimited travel on the rail network throughout most of Europe for as many days as you choose, and there are discounted options for young people and seniors. If you are considering combining your Italian trip with a visit to another country, you can often pick up a pass which will just cover two countries. These are usually adjacent countries, but not always. For example, Italy and Spain is an option.
Visiting Italy can be an extremely rewarding experience, and you can get so much more from it if you plan well in advance. Not only will you have a greatly enhanced knowledge of what is possible, you will also have a chance to save money by choosing the most economical pricing option from the many available. This applies especially to the many options available when you choose Italy rail travel.
